A new look for PSP

For the better part of 17 years, The Philly Soccer Page has been covering the beautiful game across our region – from amateur youth leagues to the US National Teams. We’re continuing that dedicated coverage, soon with a new and more modern website.

The “retro” design of PSP has set the site apart from other pages dedicated to sports journalism. While that design has been unique, it’s also started posing problems.

PSP’s current theme is losing support within the WordPress architecture and many of our readers have seen the impact that has on the site’s usability. We’ve had issues with readers losing access to comments, with pages not loading properly, and on the backend for our editors and contributors in publishing.

It’s time to update to a modern theme to not just restore PSP’s usability to its fullest, but to give the content our contributors are producing the place it deserves to shine brightest.

Our new design will highlight the outstanding photography of our photo staff, make it easier to find our most popular features and improve navigation and functionality for readers. It will also be more compliant with new requirements for websites under the Americans with Disabilities Act by implementing ADA recommended fonts and accessibility features.

As part of the redesign, we’ve cleaned up all the sections we haven’t been dedicating coverage to for years. None of this content is gone, but instead housed under a new “Archive” menu. If new contributors want to pick some of these beats back up, we can easily bring them back into the main sections.

We’ll continue updating our pages on local soccer leagues, how you can help PSP and where you can find more from our contributors as we continue the deep dive of PSP’s content.

We know change can be scary and we expect PSP’s new look will be a big shift for many of our readers. We’re committed to keeping this site a place built for fans, so if something isn’t working, we want to know about it. If something doesn’t make sense, or is missing, we’ll do our best to make it work better.

Thank you to everyone who has made PSP one of the best sources of news and information on soccer in our region. Everyone involved in this project does it as a volunteer because we love the sport, and we love this community.
